NATURAL REGENERATION OF PINE AT CARRYING OUT GRADUAL FELLING IN SUBZONE OF MIXED CONIFEROUS BROAD LEAFED FORESTS IN THE VYATKA-KAMA INTERFLUVE
The success of natural regeneration of pine on felling area of experimental and production two-stage felling performed in pine forest of beadruby-cowbarry subzone of mixed coniferous broad leafed forests in the Vyatka-Kama interfluve was estimated. In the first felling the density of forest stand decreased to 0.2–0.3. After that the furrow soil mineralization was carried out. The second, final felling was carried out four years later; when the height of self-seeding pines in the furrow reached 30–35 cm. Felling was conducted in different years. Accounting for self-seeding conducted on 8 plots with a total area 29.6 hectares. The data obtained show that the number of self-seeding on plots of experiment varies from 4 to 125 thousand plants per 1 ha. The differentiation of the number of plants on the plots due to: 1) the variability of seed yield and of young growth in the years of semination felling areas; 2) the death of pines in the furrows through damage by wild boars. According to regional recommendations, a satisfactory natural regeneration of pine on felling with fresh soils provided at presence 4-5 thousand plants up to 0.5 m at 1 hectare. Therefore, the current number of self-seeding will provide formation of new pine plantations on all plots where experimental and production gradual felling was conducted. Thus, the two-stage felling with the furrow soil mineralization within four years provide successful concomitant regeneration of pine on felling in the pine forests of beadruby-cowbarry subzone of mixed coniferous broad leafed forests in the Vyatka-Kama interfluve. Their high efficiency is achieved if the first felling of forest stand is carried out in the seed year and if timely and quality care for the self-seeding is performed.
