Growth and productivity of larch forests after reformation harvesting in birch forests of the Southern Urals

Growth and productivity of larch young stands were studied after logging in the reformation of the derivatives of secondary birch groves. The tree stand was administered for felling at the density oflarch undergrowth Larix Sukaczewii from 1500 pcs. / Ha and cut down at once in the winter. In areas with curtains of undergrowth cutting location was administered in two parts. 20 years after the works have formed highly productive young stands with a dominant participation of of larch and a small admixture birch. Larix Sukaczewii in the Southern Urals is capable in 30 years of age form the planting a stock of up to 140 m3/ha, for comparison, secondary birch in the same site conditions reach a stock under the age of 50-60 years. Choice of larch as a promising species is not random in the first place, historically in the area were growing forest stands dominated by pine and larch, which are systematically were logging, and secondly, larch is the fastest growing conifer breed in Russia, and third, Miass forest area covers 43 663 ha instead of the native conifer plantations are grown with a predominance in the stands of birch and aspen, which indicates a progressive change in forest species. The high productivity of larch explained by its biological properties, namely high-energy growth at a young age and rapid adaptation of needles undergrowth on the release of the birch canopy. Our studies extend the modern methods of cultivation of highly productive stands of forest in the southern Urals. Finding ways to restore conifer plantations at minimal cost for their creation and cultivation allows us to solve the problem of increasing forest productivity.
