Thyroid status of pigs at circovirus infection

Industrialpig breeding assumes placing a large number of animals on limited areas andincreasing intensification of technological cycle of production. At thatnegative stress factors increase; reportable disease are often characterized bypolyetiology that develop on the background of immunodeficiency state ofanimals. The mere presence of the virus is not enough for the infection. Insome farms the disease does not occur or occurs in isolated cases, but inothers it takes away to 50 % of the growingpigs. The reasons for such behavior of the pathogen are not completelyelucidated. The reduction in the secretion of growth hormone, cortisol, progesterone, testosterone, and free thyroxine was identified in a comparativestudy of the hormonal background diseased animals; that shows an imbalance inthe functional activity of the pituitary, adrenal and thyroid glands. Reversedevelopment of thyroid dysfunction during PMWS is one of the criteria for theeffectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
